A Simple Little Shift
"The only constant is change."Â Â ~Unknown~
As human beings, it is in our nature to fear Change. Change is one of the most ominous words in the human language. We start all life endeavors with an image in our minds as to the outcome, and become disillusioned when Change threatens that image. We dutifully forge paths for ourselves in our lives only to discover that the waves of Change constantly reinvent our views of those paths. We will often willingly sit in stagnant situations, stale jobs, erroding lifestyles, dryed up relationships, simply to avoid the threat of Change.
We have a tendency to resist Change at all costs, even when Change is the only route to growth. We want what we want, know what we know, and Change means a venture into the unknown. Like children hiding under our covers, frightened of what is lurking behind the closet door, Change is thought to be a monster, waiting to devour our sweetest dreams.
Yet Change needn't be so scary. Change is the only constant we can rely on. Changes take place on a daily basis, both within ourselves and surrounding our every activity. It is Change that makes the world go round for without Change, we become immovable stones blocking the road to the future. Thus, the most solid of structures that we are able to create, still will be altered by Change.
Perhaps if we could only convince ourselves that change is really not the huge threat it appears to be. If somehow there were a way of lessening the power of the word that holds us at bay, a simple little shift in thinking. Maybe then we would be able to unabashedly view the road that is possibly ahead.
Like using the gears on car, shifting is often the only way to get to where we need to be. We are no more frightened of shifting from neutral to drive than we are to gaze at the stars that ride the skies at night, lighting the Milky Way. Shifting ever so slightly with a mere adjustment to movement or thought can create mobility from an otherwise tar-pitted position. Shifting that position could just turn out to be the only remedy to all those daily pains in the neck we get when we're immobile for too long.
Then, we just may be able to shift in a positive direction. If we can gear our minds just right.
